A Legacy of Community Theatre
Founded in 1981 by a passionate group of local theatre lovers, Riverfront Playhouse began its journey at 1620 East Cypress Avenue. That first production, Seesaw, opened the doors to nearly four decades of storytelling, creativity, and connection in Redding.
A New Era on California Street
Now located in the heart of Downtown Redding at 1950 California Street, Riverfront has continued its mission with a renewed spark. We proudly operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and are the longest continually operated, volunteer-driven community theatre in the region — honored as Best Live Theatre three years running: 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Live theatre is more than performance — it’s a catalyst for connection, empathy, and expression. We provide a welcoming space for performers and audiences of all backgrounds to share stories that inspire, challenge, and entertain. From bold new voices to timeless classics, Riverfront nurtures art that speaks to the community.
From the front of house to backstage, every production is powered by our dedicated team of volunteers. Whether building sets, managing lights, directing, or acting — our people are the heartbeat of every show. Riverfront offers hands-on experience, collaboration, and a home for those passionate about creating magic together.

For over 43 years, Riverfront has been more than a theatre — it’s been a stage for community. We offer discounted performance rentals to local nonprofits, helping them raise funds through the power of storytelling. Our doors are open, our vision is bold, and our future is bright — right here in the heart of Downtown Redding.
We’re proud to support the next generation of theatre artists. Youth are invited to explore all aspects of stagecraft, working alongside seasoned mentors in productions and tech. Each year, we also award scholarships to graduating high school seniors pursuing theatre in college.
